Movement Monday:  When is the Best Time of Year to Recruit?

by | Mar 31, 2025

Recruiting Insight will soon publish our comprehensive study on agent movement.

In the study, we’ll address seasonality in detail and help you show up at the right place and the right time to maximize your recruiting results.

When is that time?

It depends on where you’re recruiting.

In the Mid- Atlantic (Bright MLS), 55% of agents move in the first quarter.

In California (CA Regional MLS), 42% of agents move in the fourth quarter.

In Texas (North TX MLS), 35% of agents move in the fourth quarter.

In Florida (Stellar MLS), agents move at the same pace year-round.

High performing recruiters and hiring managers use seasonality to guide their recruiting behaviors in the following ways:

They treat recruiting as a year-round activity. While agent movement is seasonally concentrated, there are still many agents who move at other times of the year.

By ignoring this reality, you could potentially miss 45% to 75% of the recruiting opportunities that happened during non-peak times of the year.

The “always be recruiting” principle still applies.

They use the “law of the farm” to guide their activities. Recruiting is not a one-time event, but a process of planting, watering, weeding, nurturing, and eventually harvesting.

It’s important to work as hard (or harder) during the non-harvesting parts of the year doing the activities that lead to a successful harvest.

Lazy farmers doom themselves during the spring and summer.

Yes, seasonality matters in the sense that it allows you to build a year-round plan of activities that will produce the most hires.

Great recruiters are always busy.

The Library Effect

The Library Effect is something you can easily apply to recruiting, and it’s one of the reasons that accountability groups are so effective.

Just getting together with other hiring managers and recruiting for a set period of time each week will short-circuit many of your recruiting excuses.
