Yesterday, we discussed how individuals who lack good management (or have no management at all) become disengaged and eventually leave their companies.
While research strongly supports this idea, one Insight reader recently watched it unfold right before her eyes. Here’s what she shared with me:
Last week, one of my agents struck up a conversation with a competing agent at a nail salon.
The agent shared that she’s affiliated with a virtual brokerage where everyone works remotely.
She has no day-to-day connection with anyone, feels isolated, and her business is declining.
She said, “I’m scared and don’t have anyone to help me figure this out.”
My agent’s response was immediate and direct: “You need to get in your car, come to my office, and meet the woman who makes me, and everyone in our office, successful.”
And that’s exactly what she did.
I was only able to meet with her for about 10 minutes, but another agent on our team stepped in and picked up where I left off.
As she was heading to her car, I thanked her for stopping by.
She replied, “I need to be here. I need people like you and the others I met today to help me grow my business and feel like I’m part of something.”
There are tens of thousands of agents who feel exactly this way. They don’t just need a better brokerage, they need a leader who will help them find success, purpose, and connection.
Recruiting is often about throwing someone a lifeline.
