Will You Allow Quiet Quitters to Stay?

Quiet quitting is where workers do as little work as possible to not get fired.

According to the Gallup Organization, quiet quitting was a trend that started in late 2021 and lasted for a couple of years in the broader employment market.

The real estate industry was not immune from this trend, but it got to the party a little late.

When the market tightened a year later (fall 2022), many “order-taking agents” stopped getting business, but they didn’t leave the industry.

These quiet quitters maintained the appearance of having a career but had no intention of doing the work it would take to be successful under more difficult market conditions.

Fast forward two years, and the next strategic change (the NAR settlement) is on the horizon.

Some are suggesting this change will finally motivate low-performing agents to leave the industry.

Is this going to happen?  Probably not.

Regardless of the settlement, low-producing agents will still be able to fly below the radar because the industry supports this kind of behavior.

A better question to ask is this:

Will YOU allow quiet quitters to stay in your organization?

As you know, you can’t build a high-performing organization with a bunch of low-performing agents.

And the risk profile of low-performing agents is higher than it’s ever been.

It’s a tough call.

But as the next chapter of real estate unfolds, I would place my bet on the leaders who are hiring and supporting professional agents.
