Agent Migration: Who’s Moving and Why

by | Apr 24, 2026

On Tuesday, you’ll have the opportunity to download our latest Agent Migration Report.

It’s 47 pages packed with actionable insights that will help make sense of the recruiting landscape.

For example, the report outlines the basics of who’s moving and at what rate.

But it doesn’t stop there, it also provides insight on what each group is experiencing and the value propositions most likely to catch their attention.

The Elite Tier (> $8M/yr)
• Share of Movers: 11.7%
• The Reality: These agents rarely move under pressure. When they do, it is a strategic business decision.
• Your pitch must focus on advanced wealth building, legacy planning, and bespoke operational support.

The Target Zone ($4M – $8M/yr)
• Share of Movers: 19%
• The Reality: This is the highest ROI target for brokerages. These agents have proven systems and are highly profitable, but they are often frustrated by a lack of scale or ceiling in their current environment.
• Your pitch must focus on efficiency and expansion.

The Mighty Middle ($1M – $4M/yr)
• Share of Movers: 55.8%
• The Reality: This band represents the massive majority of the movement in the market. These are the agents who pay the bills for the brokerage.
• Your pitch must focus on immediate support, lead generation, and coaching to help them break through to the next tier.

The Bottom Tier (< $1M/yr)
• Share of Movers: 13.5%
• The Reality: These are often part-time or struggling agents. While they add headcount, they rarely add meaningful profit unless they show a clear trajectory of growth.
• Your pitch must focus on helping them get serious about their career and quickly transition from part-time to full-time.

How to Get it Right by Being Wrong

How to Get it Right by Being Wrong

There are several well-documented strategies researchers have discovered, but the easiest one to implement quickly is using a structured interview process. Develop a common set of questions for your interviews and record the answers candidates provide (take notes). And then try to hold back judgment until after the interview and when you’ve had time to review your notes.

Doing Only the Things You Like Doing

Doing Only the Things You Like Doing

For most recruiters and hiring managers, recruiting is a complex, end-to-end process containing a bunch of the individual tasks all of which they’re not going to enjoy. Those who push through unpleasant tasks not only find success but also find more satisfaction in the parts of the recruiting process they do enjoy.
